Burdened

Restless
Smoke-filled horizons beckon
Echoes of battle haunt the world
Blemishes on a page of history
The book of humanity
Was burned today.

The final chapter
Hastily written
Obscured by splotches of ink
Fireflies fashioned from past glories

We had a cause, once
An ideal
Some kind of justice branded
Across our chests, carried
Welcome burdens on our hearts.

What drove us to shed blood,
Destroy and be destroyed,
Has now become
Lost.
Like leaves to a careless wind…
